China is increasingly realising the need for strengthening corporate governance and principles in its future leaders. Not only as a result of high profile scandals, but also as a natural progression from a planned to market economy where over 30% of employment is a result of FDI and where international institutions are placing strict codes of conducts on supply chains.

Em Lyon is a leading French business school with a new campus in Shanghai, and is has demonstrated its willingness to respond to this need by releasing a new course in Corporate Governance.

Delivered by Outlander Consulting, the course gave participants the opportunity to learn by doing. Core themes covered during the course included:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors by sitting on a board and make tough decisions during a role play that responds to real case acts of criminality in a company.
  • Understand the dilemmas at play in Corporate Governance and learn how attitudes towards Corporate Governance may impact an organisations performance.

  • Understand the core phases of CSR implementation in a company and then critique high profile companies to determine their ‘real’ attitude towards CSR.
  • Explore the role of a leaders MVP (Mental Agility, Values and Passion) via a simulation based on BOBST Shanghai Limited.

19 students engaged on the course and following positive feedback, Em Lyon have confirmed that the course shall continue in 2020.
