“Want to become an entrepreneur? Then learn to negotiate.” That is the message which SKEMA delivered to its 10 Masters students on the Entrepreneurship and Innovation programme in Suzhou this semester.

Delivered in 6 half-day workshops, Outlander Consulting was tasked with developing a high-impact programme that would refine the key skills needed for improving participant’ negotiation effectiveness.

Delivered by John Storm, Capability Development Director at Outlander Consulting, the programme workshops were structured as followed:

  • Setting the scene for negotiation
  • Become the negotiator: Know your strengths
  • Become the negotiator: Know others
  • Powers of influence
  • Cross cultural negotiation
  • Role play assignment

The workshops, which involved a high level groupwork and interaction, epitomised the essence of Outlanders’ principles of ‘mastery’ by ‘fun’. From rescuing trapped cave divers to warring with Jenga block towers; from arm-wrestling to scrapping out new regulations in a role play; and from case studying embarrassing negotiation failures to the ultimate victors, participants engaged in a range of activities geared to drawing out the important lessons on how to maximise your preparation for a negotiation.
